Stories about the difference Jesus and Church has made to people’s lives, here in Everton.
Danny shares his story.
Danny, our Community Outreach Worker, talks with Ashley about his experience as part of the community here at St George’s church, and the difference it has made to him.
“I suddenly found myself a single parent to 4 young children, with domestic violence behind me and an addiction to alcohol and cocaine in front of me. I came to Faith at my lowest ebb, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be here now, a lot of my friends aren’t.
That was 7 years ago. I know now that with Gods help anything is possible if you give yourself to Him.
Due to my past personal experiences, where I found myself alone with no one to turn to, I understood that people just needed someone to listen and point them in the right direction. I came up with the idea for ‘Signpost’; offering support, advice and a listening ear, if I can’t help I can ‘signpost’ people to someone who can.
I generally arrive at Church early and pray for wisdom, knowledge and strength, and to be a help to the people who come through the door, I often surprise myself at the help and advice I offer then realise, it’s not me, it’s GOD working through me. I feel I can make a difference and it is so rewarding.
I attended a meeting with a lady last week who was so anxious that she wasn’t going to go, her benefits would have been sanctioned leaving her with no money for her or her child. The meeting went without a hitch and the lady said, ‘I wouldn’t have gone if I hadn’t listened to you, Thankyou so much for your support’. That says it all.”
